MARSHALL N. CARTER
Chairman of the New York Stock Exchange, Deputy Chairman of the parent company NYSE Euronext
Former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the predecessor, New York Stock Exchange for two years prior to the merger
Mr. Carter has served as a director of the NYSE since November 2003. Before joining the NYSE, Mr. Carter served as Chairman and CEO of State Street Bank. Prior to State Street, Mr. Carter was with Chase Manhattan Bank for 15 years, in positions related to finance, operations and global securities businesses. A former Marine Corps officer who was awarded the Navy Cross and Purple Heart during two years’ service as an infantry officer in Vietnam, Mr. Carter served from 1975-76 as a White House Fellow at the State Department and Agency for International Development. Mr. Carter has most recently lectured at Sloan School of Management at M.I.T. and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
NYSE Euronext, a transatlantic exchange group that includes both the New York Stock Exchange and the American Stock Exchange (AMEX), is the world’s leading and most liquid exchange group, with both the highest average daily value of cash trading and the largest market capitalization of listed operating companies. During 2008, 42% of the world’s cash equities trading volume took place on NYSE Euronext exchanges.

The Reinert Visiting Executive Lecture Series is underwritten by donations from Rensselaer alumnus Jerome “Jerry” Reinert ’56. Mr. Reinert received his bachelor’s degree in management from Rensselaer in 1956 and later earned an MBA from New York University in 1958. Mr. Reinert is president of the Class of 1956 and has been an active volunteer over many years. Mr. Reinert has been honored for his Rensselaer service with the Distinguished Service Award, the Demers Medal, and Alumni Fellows Award. The Lally School of Management and Technology greatly appreciates Mr. Reinert’s generosity and continued involvement.
